He had finally arrived at the still point, the center
of himself and all human life. It was a jarring revelation.
He had spent his life half asleep, in a dream
of his own making. Now he wished to create,
not to channel despair, but to dig for some hope,
for what little hope still remained buried in other souls
half asleep. Some would answer and waken.
A few would join in the endeavor. But he
would live well knowing his place secure
in these pages, where human truths are spoken,
not ultimate, eternal truths, but the truths of one soul
that cultured itself to the furthest possible extent.
