She Stands For Something

She stands for something celestial,
out there in heaven, yet also here
in our own hearts. She awakens a love
that flows over and under, through body
and mind, into others, the hope
of combining, togetherness, belonging.
She is the center of a tribe still forming,
the core of a life that could be,
for her womb carries hope and potential.
Her body is the gateway to a higher life,
a fulfilled spirit, a spirit surrounded by
familiar faces and bodies and souls.
She embodies life's greatest desire, the flourishing
of all that man is. She could bring to bear
the great hope of posterity, and answer
life's most daunting question with a resounding "yes".

She could also refuse, and that refusal
threatens to tear limb from limb the man
who introjects it. But does she refuse
for her own reasons? Might the role
be too big for her? She cannot escape it regardless.

And yet her refusal cannot destroy the image
of what she stands for, and the vision is holy
despite her many flaws.
