The Real Thing

I wanted to hear her voice, to touch her,
to laugh together, to eat together, to lie in bed
and do nothing together. I wanted the real thing.

Why then did the goddess appear?
Was it her decision, or did I call to her
out of the depths of my soul?

She answered my call for mortality
with immortal visions, a punishment for some crime
(for the crime of passion I suppose).

Yet I do not regret this meeting.
It has made me ready to endure the real thing.
It has made me the man I hoped to be.
