Children of Earth and Sky

I must make a home here, in my own mind,
for I cannot escape my own impulses, cannot
become pure and clean. But there is one shining
divine invitation, to know myself, in the fullness
of that self and no other, to stand firm and care
about things that matter, and not about things
that do not. There will be no apotheosis,
no sudden rush into hope and peace eternal, for we
are the children of earth and sky, and must marry
the two somehow.
