Love Waits

One never knows how the twists and turns
of flowing time bring love around and around again
from the sediments of the past, the ashes of passions
long since burned up. What new sprouts grow
from these soils long tilled in forgotten reaches of memory,
the volcanic embers now quieted by gentle streams?
The potential is there. A single drop of water
slides down my window. I remember the heat
and the cooling power of rain. Time past and future
collide right here, to decide my path.
It will be a slow journey. Love waits for those
who are ready. They find their way to each other,
having found their way to themselves.
