This and No Other As Well

The Man checks his pulse, feels the heat
as spine curves to support a rush of blood.
He will give all he has and be grateful
for the opportunity. The time comes
when pent-up energy flows into another,
set free from waiting. He will pay
any price. He will love until love runs out
and be back for more. He has answered
the final question and delivered his promise.
The burden shifts to the Lady, who bears it
with curious grace and charm, and a silly grin.
They have made what they ought to have made.
Now together they lie in euphoria.
