How was one ever to arrive
with the nymphs proclaiming love here
or love there, always with an eye to desolation?
One arrives by discovering deeper truths,
the deep pull of the earth, the dark
draw of sex, asking all, giving nothing
in return. With this knowledge
one sails on through, toward meatier shores,
with real substance, understanding
both the horror and the appeal,
and waits for the right occasion to strike.
