She Waits As She Waits

She waits for the storm to pass, knowing only
that one fate, the coolness of rain, washing over
the dry touch of an empty refrain. This restraint
is now gentle, it bears with its burden
and goes proudly forward into the new morning,
the one always following storms. When the sun again rises
she has no faults to expose, no more follies, but only
the sweet drifting sound on the breeze. All these
summer epiphanies echo throughout, down her spine,
into softer regions awaiting exploration. But the storm
has not passed, and she waits as she waits for another
epiphany, the one that will answer at last her longing
and send her askance into ecstasy.

The epiphany waits for no man. It bubbles up
of its own accord, when the vessel is ready.
She sighs again, having tried to suppress it.
She cannot put it down. She cannot escape it,
and try as she might, she is ready,
even though she doesn't know it. But somewhere
lurk shadows that chain her to emptiness,
reminding of all past failures. She would climb higher
towards the light, wherein all things are revealed.

In that light waits another kind of demon,
disguised as an angel, the wolf in sheep's clothing
that draws all sufferers hence as a kind of predation.
Her answers lie elsewhere, and though this light
grants certain vision, it never can satisfy. Darkness
is in her, and any home must take this seriously.
She might still find her way in the coolness of an autumn day,
but she would not fly madly away from home
or forget to belong somewhere.
