Finding Herself

She sets out in search of passion and meaning
but finds instead the forbidden fruit, the knowledge
of what people do to each other. If only
she could put back together the broken pieces
and discover the wholeness she once imagined...
if only she could find her way home. She was not
to succeed, at least not in the way that she dreamed,
though she would find her answer, in the calm
after a storm, when the dust settles, feeling
her own soul, in its fullness, pulsing with life
and powering her body's animation. This soul was still
part of the world, still a holy shrine, still a part
of the larger sacredness of life.
But she now would fight harder and be more cautious
to protect it from life-destroying winds.
