Sliced One Last Time

Healing would not be forthcoming, not for a long time,
though the road winds through many a glimmering village.
There was no escape from the pain, not really, though many
would try to light fires or kindle the dwindling stars.
Only pain remained when one looked with suspicion
upon the false stories and instruments of control
that could only crush life. There were no more sprouts
in the concrete, no room for a blossom or bloom
in these shades of doom, this dark canopy of man
gone astray from himself and his origins, sliced
one last time from the womb.
