Why this sudden anger, bouncing
from pain to pain, as if
to assuage some deep grief hidden
down in some vein...I can claim
to be happy, I can claim to be free,
but between you and me there are chasms
that blank and deceive, and beyond them
I only see Nothing, the dark shade
of life's unperturbable silence, the cold
disregard into which all desire must fade.
